The second to last $1000 UTR tournament at Inspiration Academy for the month of June has come to a close. Yet another weekend with completely full draws brought some tennis of the highest quality to IA.
In the men’s side, there was yet another repeat final between two past champions for the third straight tournament. Matthew Segura finally defeated Andres Andrade in the third time of asking to take home the grade prize of $500. After a very tight first set, Segura ran away with the second and the match 7-6(1) 6-2. This win makes it his third UTR money tournament win at Inspiration Academy this year for Matthew Segura.
In the ladies’ side, Mary Stoiana came out victorious. Coming into the tournament as the number 3 seed, Mary defeated the number one seed Kylie Collins in straight sets 7-5 7-5. The final between Mary Stoiana and Inspiration Academy’s Sofia Rojas who came in as the number three seed was highly anticipated. Sofia came out the blocks hot and went up 3-0 but Mary stormed back to take the set 7-5. The second set was just as tight as the first and Mary Stoiana was just a little better in the big points to take that set as well and the match 7-5 6-4.
